A little over a month after it was delivered, Southern Pacific's first SD70M leads a westbound lumber drag on the Shasta Route.

Southern Pacific's first two SD70Ms tote the PTPCX down the Sacramento River Canyon on their first westbound trip over the Shasta Route.

Espee's first two SD70Ms lead the PTPCX west on the Shasta Route. At Dunsmuir, a helicopter would follow the train down the Sacramento River Canyon to obtain images for advertising media.

Espee's first two SD70Ms head for Los Angeles with the Pacific Coast Express. The train is crossing the Salt Creek Arm of Lake Shasta.
